You don't have to learn everything, but it does teach you information that as a consumer you should know. The book starts you off with the history of cars and then dives right in with the 1st topic, giving colour pictures and excellent diagrams all described so even a dummy such as myself can get it once you have the basics down experience in the field will take you the rest but it's nice to have a starting block. ANY question you will encounter on the phase tests or the exams will have an exact answer in this book.

The English is not too complicated which can be an incredibly headache for people who just want to sit and read to catch up but end up with a book that had a sentence within a sentence that digresses mid-sentence. The books, of which I believe there are currently 6 per edition, are not updated very often and seldom at the same time.

Book 2 follows on with greater depth and breadth for modern vehicle technologies and electronic based systems and is more appropriate for advanced students and for existing technicians who want to develop knowledge of the modern vehicle.

I bought the Haynes Manual for my MX5 with the real intention of carrying out work but could not penetrate it's language. The new edition of Hillier’s has been updated and undergone a full-colour revision featuring new photos and illustrations to engage those keen to learn the fundamentals of MVT and enhance their understanding of the core concepts whilst keeping the straightforward approach that is much admired in this authoritative manual. He has authored and co-authored numerous publications, primarily focusing on engine and vehicle technology. Each edition is well written and, I think, with the car enthusiast in mind as opposed to the professional reader.To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. These widely-admired and authoritative texts provide the best possible resource for students, apprentices, enthusiasts, and professionals who need to get to grips with core concepts and achieve comprehensive mastery of core concepts of automobile technology. The book gets straight to the point with an easy to use index and titled paragraphs I'd recommend this to anyone studying Motor Vehicle Technology at college or even if you just want to learn something new and you don't really need to know a lot about cars to understand this book unlike any other books. This book is brilliant for students, teachers or anyone who is taking up a career in motor vehicle mechanics.

Not only does it give you the fundamental basics but it also takes you to the maths and science behind everything. If you are a mechanic wanting to increase your knowledge or a student/potential student then you should not be without this book!
