About this deal

Secondly, it is well known that a well done rust blue is by far the most durable traditional finish for firearms; hot salt bluing, while beautiful in its own right, uses more hazardous substances, has by-products which must be dealt with and gotten rid of, and is far more needful of equipment. At the end of this heating process the crucible is removed from the oven and positioned over a bath of water with air forced through a perforated coil in the bottom of the bath. Cold bluing isn't especially resistant to holster wear, neither it provides a high degree of rust resistance.

Further advice to people is, if they are only going to do a single firearm or two, just use salt water. If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag. For a high polish finish, it is a little more difficult, and the soft wire wheel can sometimes rub through, but even though it takes more applications, it eventually comes out bright. I have since read that some of the old rust bluing formulas contained cyanide which have since been discontinued for obvious safety reasons. Each thermometer is carefully sealed, calibrated, and double-checked for accuracy to prevent the common bluing failures associated with inferior thermometers. Professionally this would be done with active extraction to avoid exposure to the fumes, which are toxic and can kill or cause long term illnesses. The reamer is available in different expansion ranges for 20 and 12 gauge shotguns, but pilots for 10 and 16 gauge are not available.

Use the solution in a single pass to cover small surfaces, or in parts no larger than 4 to 5 inches when covering large areas, then smooth it out using sandpaper. Q. I was trying the cold blueing method on my shot gun and seem to have missed out on some important step in the process, because the parts haven't blued properly and they are still rusty. Use polypropylene balls or chroffles to cover your heated tanks as this will reduce your energy consumption and emissions. I can't tell you for sure what is wrong, but what I can tell you is that you will get a much more blue color on a highly polished substrate than on anything matte. Hot blue solutions may contain mercury bichloride and an alkali salt mixture of sodium hydroxide and potassium nitrite or sodium nitrate. What I did wrong was try to tackle a commercial quantity rather than reduce by percentage this mixture to a 10-gun size mixture. It is a difficult product to apply evenly, offers minimal protection and is generally best used for small fast repair jobs and touch-ups. noticed a totally black spot and it turned out to be the pin for the extractor that I didn't know was even there. These processes were later abandoned by major firearm manufacturers as it often took parts days to finish completely, and was very labor-intensive.
